In Pixar’s Cars 3, Cruz Ramirez is Lightning McQueen’s trainer at the Rust-eze Racing Center.
Cruz is an enthusiastic yellow race trainer who uses simulators, fitness exercises, and modern performance data to prepare racers. She initially works with McQueen as he tries to compete against a younger generation of high-tech cars, but their relationship changes as she becomes increasingly important to the story.
Cruz has dreamed of racing herself, although she has been directed toward coaching rather than competing. McQueen eventually recognizes her talent and helps her pursue that ambition. Their partnership becomes the emotional center of Cars 3 and links the film’s themes of mentorship, confidence, and passing knowledge to a new generation.
Cruz Ramirez should not be confused with Sally Carrera, the Porsche who owns the Cozy Cone Motel and is McQueen’s close friend. Natalie Certain is a statistical analyst who appears in the film, but she is not McQueen’s Rust-eze trainer.
