Cruz Ramirez is assigned to train Lightning McQueen after the rise of Jackson Storm exposes the limits of Lightning’s old methods. She works at the Rust-eze Racing Center and uses modern simulation, fitness, and data-based techniques. At first, Lightning sees her training as frustrating and overly technical, but their relationship develops into the film’s emotional partnership.
Cruz is voiced by Cristela Alonzo. Although she begins as a trainer rather than an established top racer, the story reveals her own ambitions and abilities. Lightning eventually helps her pursue a racing opportunity instead of treating her only as a coach.
