In Pixar’s Cars 3, Lightning McQueen’s new trainer Ramirez is named Cruz. Cruz Ramirez works at the Rust-eze Racing Center and is assigned to help Lightning prepare for competition against younger racers.
Cruz initially approaches training through modern technology, including simulators and data analysis. Lightning is frustrated when these methods do not immediately restore his confidence or speed. Their relationship changes as both characters recognize that training is not only about statistics but also about understanding a racer’s motivation.
Cruz has racing ambitions of her own. Her background and abilities become increasingly important as the story develops, making her more than a supporting trainer. The film explores mentorship as a two-way relationship: Lightning learns new ways to compete, while Cruz gains confidence in her own potential.
Cruz Ramirez is voiced in English by Cristela Alonzo. Her yellow design and energetic personality distinguish her from Lightning’s red racing appearance.
