Axlerod is introduced as a former oil baron who has converted himself into an electric car and founded the World Grand Prix. He promotes Allinol as a clean alternative fuel and presents the competition as a way to demonstrate its benefits.
The espionage plot reveals that Axlerod uses electromagnetic pulses to make Allinol-powered cars appear to explode. His goal is to discredit alternative fuel and restore dependence on petroleum. He also manipulates the race and kidnaps Professor Zündapp’s operation to advance the scheme.
The character is voiced by Eddie Izzard. Axlerod is often confused with Professor Zündapp, who carries out technical and criminal operations for the conspiracy. Zündapp is an accomplice; Axlerod is the person behind the larger plan.
