In Pixar’s Cars 2, Miles Axlerod is revealed to be the film’s secret villain.

Axlerod presents himself as a former oil baron who has converted to electric power. He organizes the World Grand Prix, a global racing event intended to promote Allinol, a supposedly clean alternative fuel.

The plot later reveals that Axlerod is the mastermind behind a plan to discredit Allinol by causing cars to explode when exposed to electromagnetic pulses. His goal is to make alternative fuel look dangerous and increase dependence on oil.

The twist is connected to the film’s spy-thriller structure. Mater becomes involved with British agent Finn McMissile and analyst Holley Shiftwell, while Lightning McQueen competes in the Grand Prix.
