In Pixar’s Cars 2, which secret agent recruits Mater for an international mission?

Finn McMissile recruits Mater for an international mission in Pixar’s Cars 2.

Finn is a British spy car who mistakes Mater’s unusual behavior for evidence of specialized undercover expertise. He and Holley Shiftwell bring Mater into an investigation involving a plot connected to the World Grand Prix and a dangerous alternative fuel.

The character is designed as a tribute to classic espionage films. His appearance combines cues from British sports cars and spy vehicles, while his equipment includes gadgets associated with secret-agent stories. Michael Caine provides Finn’s voice in the English-language version.

Mater is not actually a trained spy, which creates much of the film’s comedy, but Finn’s recruitment makes him central to the action. Finn should not be confused with Rod Redline, an American agent whose disappearance begins the espionage storyline, or Professor Zündapp, one of the villains.
