In Pixar's Cars 2, which international racing event becomes central to the story?

The story behind the answer

In Pixar's Cars 2, the World Grand Prix becomes central to the story.

The fictional event is organized by Miles Axlerod to promote Allinol, an alternative fuel. It takes the competitors to locations including Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London, giving the sequel a much more international setting than the original film's American road-story framework.

Lightning McQueen enters the World Grand Prix, while Mater becomes involved in an international spy plot. The races and espionage storyline eventually converge when the Allinol project is revealed to have been manipulated for destructive purposes.

Cars 2 was released in 2011 and was directed by John Lasseter and Brad Lewis. Unlike the first film, it places Mater at the center of the narrative and expands the Cars world into a spy-adventure format.
