In Pixar's Cars 2, which Formula-style racer is Lightning McQueen's main rival?

In Pixar's Cars 2, Francesco Bernoulli is Lightning McQueen's main racing rival.

Francesco is an Italian open-wheel racer who competes against Lightning in the World Grand Prix. He is fast, theatrical, and highly confident, frequently reminding others that he considers himself the event's biggest star. His rivalry with Lightning supplies the central sporting tension while Mater's spy adventure drives the film's broader action plot.

The character's open-wheel appearance and Italian identity distinguish him from the stock-car racers of the Piston Cup. Francesco is voiced by John Turturro in the original English version. His exaggerated confidence is part of the film's comic contrast between international celebrity and Lightning's more grounded racing background.

Francesco should not be confused with Jackson Storm, who is Lightning's major rival in Cars 3. Chick Hicks is the principal aggressive opponent in the first Cars film. Miguel Camino is another Cars 2 racer, but he is not Lightning's primary rival in that story.
