In Pixar’s Cars 2, which former oil baron becomes the villain Miles Axlerod?

The story behind the answer

Sir Miles Axlerod is the former oil baron who becomes the villain in Pixar’s Cars 2.

Axlerod presents himself as an electric-car pioneer and organizes the World Grand Prix to promote Allinol, a supposedly clean alternative fuel. His public image is designed to make the fuel campaign appear environmentally responsible and internationally important. The film later reveals that his plan is connected to a broader conspiracy involving engine explosions and control of the race’s publicity.

Axlerod is voiced by Eddie Izzard. The character’s name is deliberately close to “axle,” continuing the automotive naming style used throughout the franchise. He is not the same character as Professor Zündapp, the German scientist who assists the plot, or Finn McMissile, the British spy who investigates it.
