In Pixar’s Cars 2, which fictional spy organization recruits Mater as an agent?

C.H.R.O.M.E. recruits Mater as an agent in Pixar’s Cars 2.

The organization is the fictional espionage agency Central Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage. Mater becomes involved after being mistaken for an American spy during the World Grand Prix, an international race organized by Miles Axlerod.

Although Mater is not trained as a secret agent, his apparently accidental actions repeatedly help Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell investigate a conspiracy involving a new alternative fuel. The acronym and spy framework give Cars 2 a markedly different tone from the small-town story of the first film.

The film was released in 2011 and directed by John Lasseter and Brad Lewis. Its international locations include Tokyo, Porto Corsa and London. The agency should not be confused with the film’s criminal group, which is connected to Professor Zündapp and the lemons.
