In Pixar's Cars 2, Francesco Bernoulli is from Italy.
Francesco is an Italian Formula-style race car and one of Lightning McQueen's main rivals in the World Grand Prix. He is famous for his speed, confidence, and flamboyant personality, and he repeatedly boasts that he can defeat Lightning. His design and background connect him to Italy's motorsport tradition and to the Italian race setting used later in the film.
Francesco is voiced by John Turturro. He is not an agent or spy; that part of Cars 2's story belongs to characters such as Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell. Francesco is a competitive racer whose rivalry with Lightning supplies the sporting storyline while Mater becomes involved in the espionage plot. The character's nationality is sometimes confused with the film's other international locations, but Francesco is explicitly Italian.
