Tokyo hosts the first World Grand Prix race in Pixar's Cars 2.
The race takes place at night through Tokyo's streets, with the competitors passing modern architecture and illuminated city scenery. Lightning McQueen enters the event after being challenged by Francesco Bernoulli, an Italian Formula-style racer.
The World Grand Prix continues with a race in Porto Corsa, Italy, and concludes in London, England. These three cities provide the film's international racing framework while the spy plot unfolds around the competitors and organizers.
Tokyo is sometimes confused with the later locations because Cars 2 moves rapidly between countries. Radiator Springs appears at the beginning and end of the story but is not the first World Grand Prix venue. Porto Corsa is the Italian race location, and London hosts the final major race and the film's climactic events.
