In Pixar's Cars 2, Miles Axlerod is revealed to be the mastermind behind the plot.

Axlerod is introduced as the wealthy former oil baron who has converted himself into an electric car and created the World Grand Prix. His public campaign presents Allinol as a clean alternative fuel. The investigation eventually reveals that he is secretly directing the attacks on cars using Allinol and manipulating the race to damage the reputation of alternative energy.

Professor Zündapp serves as Axlerod's principal technical accomplice, so viewers can confuse the two villains. Zündapp operates equipment and helps carry out the plan, but Axlerod is the figure behind the conspiracy. The revelation gives Cars 2 its central mystery and explains why the World Grand Prix, Allinol and the attacks are connected.
