Miles Axlerod is revealed as the mastermind behind the plot against Allinol in Pixar’s Cars 2.
Axlerod presents himself as a former oil baron who has become an electric-car advocate. He organizes the World Grand Prix and promotes Allinol, an alternative fuel that is secretly designed to make cars explode when exposed to electromagnetic pulses.
The scheme is intended to discredit alternative fuel and preserve demand for petroleum. Axlerod uses the race broadcasts and attacks on competitors to create a worldwide crisis while hiding his involvement behind the public event.
Professor Zündapp is an important accomplice, but he is not the ultimate planner. Finn McMissile is a British spy investigating the conspiracy, while Mater becomes involved after being mistaken for an American secret agent. The film’s climax exposes Axlerod’s plan and prevents the plot from succeeding.
