In Pixar’s Cars 2, Miles Axlerod is revealed as the mastermind behind the World Grand Prix conspiracy.
Axlerod presents himself as a former oil tycoon who became an electric car and promotes Allinol, an alternative fuel. The World Grand Prix is used to advertise Allinol and to create a worldwide spectacle around its supposed benefits.
The conspiracy uses electromagnetic weapons to make racers’ engines react violently to Allinol. Axlerod’s plan is to discredit alternative fuel, restore the importance of oil, and increase his own influence. Mater, Finn McMissile, and Holley Shiftwell gradually uncover the scheme.
Axlerod is not merely an innocent race sponsor. His public identity conceals the larger operation, while Professor Zündapp helps carry out the technical side of it. Cars 2 deliberately presents Axlerod as a suspicious but seemingly respectable figure before revealing his true role near the conclusion.
