In Pixar's Cars 2, what worldwide racing event does Lightning McQueen enter?

In Pixar's Cars 2, Lightning McQueen enters the World Grand Prix.

The World Grand Prix is a three-race international competition organized by Sir Miles Axlerod. McQueen agrees to participate after being challenged by Francesco Bernoulli, a fast Italian open-wheel racer. The races take place in Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London, giving the sequel a much broader setting than the original film.

The competition is linked to Allinol, a new alternative fuel promoted by Axlerod. What appears to be a sports-tour story develops into an espionage plot involving a secret weapon and a conspiracy targeting the participating cars. Mater becomes central to that spy storyline after being mistaken for an undercover agent.

The World Grand Prix should not be confused with the Piston Cup. The Piston Cup is the American championship from Cars, while the World Grand Prix is the international event created for the second film.
