In Pixar’s Cars 2, Miles Axlerod is the energy magnate behind the plot.
Axlerod presents himself as a former oil baron who has converted to electric power and now promotes Allinol, the alternative fuel used in the World Grand Prix. His public campaign is designed to make the fuel appear successful while concealing a much more dangerous plan.
The character is ultimately revealed as the mastermind manipulating the races and the fuel conspiracy. His scheme uses electromagnetic interference to make cars using Allinol appear to fail, damaging confidence in alternative energy.
Axlerod is often confused with Professor Zündapp, the German scientist who helps carry out the operation. Finn McMissile is a British spy investigating it, while Mater becomes an accidental participant in the espionage story.
