In Pixar's Cars 2, Tokyo hosts the first race of the World Grand Prix.
The race takes place on a specially designed Tokyo circuit, beginning the international competition that brings Lightning McQueen and Mater into the film's larger spy adventure. The setting combines recognizable Tokyo imagery with the film's vehicle-based world, including neon signs, elevated roads, and a nighttime street-racing atmosphere.
The World Grand Prix then continues to Porto Corsa in Italy and London in the United Kingdom. These locations give Cars 2 a much broader scale than the original Cars, which focuses primarily on Radiator Springs and a United States racing route.
Tokyo is sometimes confused with the other two World Grand Prix venues, especially because the film moves quickly between countries. Porto Corsa is the fictional Italian race town, while London provides the final major setting. The Tokyo event is the first race shown in the competition.
