In Pixar's Cars 2, Finn McMissile recruits Mater as an undercover agent.
Finn McMissile is a British secret agent who investigates the conspiracy surrounding the World Grand Prix. He first mistakes Mater for an American agent because of information passed through the spy network. Mater's unusual behavior and accidental observations then make him unexpectedly useful to Finn's investigation.
Finn works with Holley Shiftwell, a British intelligence agent, as they trace the plot involving Professor Zündapp, Miles Axlerod, Allinol, and the electromagnetic weapon. The pair's serious spy personas contrast with Mater's improvisational approach, which supplies much of the film's comedy.
Miles Axlerod is the billionaire behind the World Grand Prix, not the spy who recruits Mater. Professor Zündapp is a villainous scientist, while Tomber is one of the characters linked to the criminal operation. Finn McMissile is the specific British agent who begins Mater's covert adventure.
