In Pixar’s Cars 2, what is the name of Lightning McQueen’s Italian competitor?

In Pixar’s Cars 2, Francesco Bernoulli is Lightning McQueen’s Italian competitor.

Francesco is a Formula-style open-wheel racer who enters the World Grand Prix and presents himself as Lightning’s principal sporting rival. His speed and showmanship create a competitive tension that continues across the international race schedule.

The character’s design and name signal his Italian identity, while his boastful personality supplies much of the film’s racing comedy. He is a racer, not one of the spies investigating the conspiracy around the event.

Francesco is voiced in the English version by John Turturro. That detail can cause confusion because Cars 2 has many internationally themed characters, including British agents Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell. Francesco’s defining role is specifically as Lightning’s World Grand Prix opponent.
