In Pixar’s Cars 2, Mater’s full name after his knighthood is Sir Tow Mater.

Mater receives the title after helping expose the conspiracy surrounding the World Grand Prix. Queen Elizabeth II grants him a knighthood during the film’s closing events, creating the formal name “Sir Tow Mater.” The joke works because “tow mater” sounds like “tomato,” while the honor adds an intentionally grand title to his simple tow-truck identity.

Mater begins Cars 2 as Lightning McQueen’s best friend from Radiator Springs. His accidental involvement in espionage leads other characters to mistake him for a secret agent. Although he appears clumsy and uncultured to the international racers, his observations help uncover the plot.

The title is specific to the film’s ending and should not be confused with Mater’s ordinary name, Tow Mater. The Cars series uses playful names and automotive puns extensively, but “Sir Tow Mater” is the formal version created by the knighting scene.
