In Pixar’s Cars 2, the World Grand Prix is held in three countries.
The fictional international race visits Japan, Italy, and England. Its events take place in Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London, giving Cars 2 a global setting that is much broader than the small-town American landscape of the first Cars film.
The competition is organized by Sir Miles Axlerod to promote Allinol, a new alternative fuel. Lightning McQueen competes for the United States, while Mater becomes involved in the spy plot after being mistaken for an undercover agent. The three-race structure lets the film move between different cities and racing environments.
The number is sometimes misremembered because the movie includes several other locations connected with espionage, including places visited by Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell. Those additional scenes do not add more World Grand Prix host countries. The race itself has three official stops: Japan, Italy, and England.
