In "Parks and Recreation," Chris Pratt plays Andy Dwyer, the goofy, guitar-playing member of the Pawnee parks department.
Andy first appears as Ann Perkins's unemployed boyfriend after falling into a construction pit and breaking both legs. His laziness and elaborate attempts to keep Ann caring for him quickly establish his comic personality, but the character gradually becomes much more central to the series.
Andy is also the lead singer and guitarist of the fictional band Mouse Rat. His musical enthusiasm leads to several memorable performances, including songs about Pawnee's beloved miniature horse, Li'l Sebastian. Later, he creates the children's-show alter ego Johnny Karate and works as Leslie Knope's assistant.
Chris Pratt was originally intended to be a temporary guest star. The producers liked his performance so much that Andy became a regular character beginning in season two. Pratt later became widely known for films including Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World, but Andy Dwyer remains one of his defining early television roles.
