In “Parks and Recreation,” the potent alcoholic drink Tom Haverford promotes at the Snakehole Lounge is called Snake Juice.
Snake Juice is introduced in the season-three episode “The Fight,” when Tom promotes the drink during a launch night at the Snakehole Lounge, the nightclub he partly owns with Jean-Ralphio Saperstein. Tom tries to generate excitement through word-of-mouth guerrilla marketing and encourages the parks department employees to attend.
The beverage quickly becomes notorious because nearly everyone who drinks it gets extremely intoxicated. Leslie Knope and Ann Perkins become involved in a drunken argument, while the next morning brings widespread hangovers across the department. Ron Swanson is notably less affected than the others, adding to the episode’s comic contrast.
Snake Juice is not the name of the nightclub or a generic term for Tom’s business ventures. The Snakehole Lounge is the venue; Snake Juice is the drink Tom is unveiling and promoting. The episode originally aired on May 12, 2011, and was written by Amy Poehler.
