In Norse mythology’s Ragnarök, Baldr and Höðr return from the dead and inherit the renewed world.
Baldr is the beloved son of Odin and Frigg who dies after Loki engineers a scheme involving the mistletoe. Höðr, Baldr’s blind brother, unknowingly kills him with the mistletoe projectile and is later killed in vengeance. Both brothers are therefore absent from the living world before Ragnarök.
After the destruction, the two return from Hel and are associated with the restored divine order. They meet other surviving gods and take part in the world’s renewal. This return is one reason Ragnarök is not merely an ending: the myth includes regeneration and continuity.
Their names may appear as Balder and Hod in English. They should not be confused with Víðar and Váli, Odin’s sons who also survive the catastrophe but were not the two returning brothers.
