In Norse mythology’s Ragnarok, Baldr returns from the realm of the dead after the destruction. Baldr is the beloved son of Odin and Frigg, and his death is one of the most important events leading toward Ragnarok.
Baldr is killed when the blind god Höðr, guided by Loki, throws a mistletoe weapon. Hel agrees to release Baldr if every living thing weeps for him, but one being—usually identified as Loki in disguise—refuses. Baldr therefore remains in Hel until after Ragnarok.
In the renewed world, Baldr and Höðr are both said to return, despite Höðr’s role in Baldr’s death. Baldr’s return is not the same as resurrection before Ragnarok; it belongs to the post-destruction renewal described in the mythic cycle.
