In New Year's Eve celebrations in Denmark, what food is traditionally served as a tower-shaped dessert?

The story behind the answer

In Denmark's New Year's Eve celebrations, the traditional tower-shaped dessert is kransekage.

Kransekage, also spelled kransekake in Norway, is made from rings of almond paste, sugar, and egg white. The rings are stacked in decreasing sizes to form a tall cone or tower, then held together with icing. Individual pieces can be pulled away from the structure when served.

The cake is strongly associated with weddings, Christmas, and New Year's celebrations in Denmark and Norway. A miniature bottle of sparkling wine or other decoration may be placed at the top of a festive tower, although designs vary.

Kransekage is sometimes confused with æbleskiver, which are round pancake-like treats commonly eaten in Denmark during the Christmas season. The defining feature here is the stacked almond-ring construction.
