McDonald’s debuted the “I’m Lovin’ It” campaign in 2003.
The campaign marked a major global effort to give McDonald’s a common advertising platform across countries. Its short, conversational wording was designed to sound personal and upbeat, while the accompanying musical identity made the phrase easy to recognize in commercials.
The campaign was launched internationally and became one of McDonald’s longest-running brand platforms. The phrase also appeared in the company’s familiar “ba da ba ba ba” musical signature, which helped link television, radio, digital, and in-restaurant marketing.
A frequent confusion is the campaign’s connection to Justin Timberlake, whose recording appeared in related promotion. Timberlake was not the sole creator of the global campaign, and the slogan’s debut year remains 2003. It replaced earlier slogans rather than describing the original McDonald’s brand.
