In J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, Frodo Baggins bears the One Ring for most of the quest to Mordor.
Frodo inherits the Ring from his uncle Bilbo Baggins, who had found it earlier beneath the Misty Mountains. Gandalf eventually identifies it as the One Ring created by Sauron, making its destruction essential to defeating Sauron and ending his power.
Frodo leaves the Shire with the Ring and ultimately becomes the central member of the Fellowship’s mission. He carries it through Rivendell, Moria, Lothlórien, and the dangerous lands beyond. Samwise Gamgee becomes his companion after the Fellowship breaks apart and helps him continue toward Mount Doom.
The wording “for most of the quest” matters because Frodo is not the only character to possess or carry the Ring. Bilbo held it for decades, and Sam briefly carries it after Shelob attacks Frodo. Frodo finally claims it at the Cracks of Doom before Gollum’s intervention destroys it.
