In J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology, Sauron is the maker of the One Ring.
Sauron forged the Ring in the fires of Mount Doom during the Second Age. He designed it to control the other Rings of Power and to extend his influence over their bearers. Because much of his power was placed into the One Ring, destroying it became the essential task of the quest in The Lord of the Rings.
Sauron was originally a Maia, a spiritual being who served the Vala Morgoth. After Morgoth’s defeat, Sauron became the principal enemy of the Free Peoples of Middle-earth. His power was repeatedly challenged, but the Ring allowed him to return as a major threat.
Celebrimbor helped create the Elven Rings and was deceived by Sauron, but he did not make the One Ring. Morgoth was Sauron’s earlier master, while Saruman was a later wizard who fell under Sauron’s influence. These figures are connected, but they are not the Ring’s maker.
