In J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, the language created by the Valar and spoken by the Ainur is Valarin.
Valarin is the language of the Valar, the most powerful Ainur who entered Arda and helped shape the world. Tolkien describes it as very unlike the languages of Elves and Men. Its sounds could be difficult for Elves to imitate, although some Valarin words influenced later Quenya vocabulary.
The language is important mainly in Tolkien’s linguistic mythology rather than in the narrative action of The Lord of the Rings. Only a small number of Valarin words and names are recorded in Tolkien’s writings. The scarcity of surviving examples makes it less developed for everyday use than Quenya or Sindarin.
Valarin should not be confused with Quenya, the High-elven language, or Sindarin, the language most widely spoken by Elves in Beleriand and later Middle-earth. Khuzdul is the secret language of the Dwarves and has a separate origin.
