In J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium, what are the three jewels created by Fëanor called?

The story behind the answer

The three jewels created by Fëanor in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium are called the Silmarils.

Fëanor, the greatest craftsman among the Noldor, made the Silmarils during the First Age. They contained the blended light of the Two Trees of Valinor, Telperion and Laurelin, and were described as crystals of unmatched beauty and sacred significance.

Morgoth stole the jewels after destroying the Two Trees and killing Finwë, Fëanor’s father. Fëanor then led many Noldor into exile and swore an oath to recover them, an act that brought tragedy and conflict across the First Age.

The stories of Beren and Lúthien, the children of Fëanor, and the wars of Beleriand all connect to the Silmarils. At the end of the First Age, one jewel was associated with the sky, one with the sea, and one with the earth, though their fate came through sorrow rather than triumph.
