In James Dashner’s The Maze Runner, the boy who arrives with no memory is named Thomas.
Thomas wakes inside a metal elevator called the Box and reaches the Glade, a settlement surrounded by an enormous changing maze. At first, he remembers only his first name, while the other Gladers have also lost most memories of their previous lives.
The novel gradually reveals Thomas’s connection to the maze and to the organization responsible for the experiment. His curiosity and determination lead him to challenge the Gladers’ rules, especially after Teresa arrives and the maze begins behaving differently.
The name “Thomas” can be confused with surnames or names from other dystopian series, but it is the protagonist’s first name in Dashner’s book. Dylan O’Brien played Thomas in the 2014 film adaptation, which expands and changes some story details from the novel.
