In Islamic tradition, which angel will blow the trumpet on the Day of Judgment?

The story behind the answer

In Islamic tradition, Israfil will blow the trumpet on the Day of Judgment.

Israfil, also spelled Isrāfīl or Israfel, is the angel associated with the trumpet, or ṣūr, that signals the events of Qiyamah, the Islamic Day of Judgment. Traditional accounts commonly describe two major blasts: one connected with the end of the present world and another with resurrection and the gathering of the dead.

The Qur’an refers to the trumpet and its blasts but does not name Israfil directly. His identification comes from later Islamic tradition, including hadith and theological literature. For this reason, the answer is traditional rather than a personal name explicitly stated in the Qur’an.

Israfil is usually counted among the four great archangels in Islamic tradition, alongside Jibril, Mikail, and the Angel of Death, often called Azrael. That quartet creates a frequent quiz confusion: Jibril is associated with revelation, Mikail with provision or natural forces, and Azrael with death, while Israfil has the trumpet.
