In Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, what is the name of the young boy who becomes Indiana Jones’s sidekick?

The story behind the answer

In Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, the young boy who becomes Indiana Jones’s sidekick is Short Round.

Short Round is an orphan living in Shanghai who works as Indiana’s driver and assistant. He accompanies Indiana and Willie Scott after the film’s opening escape and remains central to the journey to Pankot Palace. His quick thinking and loyalty repeatedly help the adults survive dangerous situations.

Ke Huy Quan played Short Round in the 1984 film. The character’s nickname is used throughout the story, while the screenplay gives him the name Wan Li. Short Round is not Mutt Williams, who appears as Indiana’s son in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The two characters belong to different films and different generations of Indiana’s family and companions.
