In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the library containing Indiana’s clue to the Grail is in Venice.
Indiana travels to Venice after receiving information that his father disappeared while investigating the Holy Grail. With help from Dr. Elsa Schneider, he identifies a hidden tomb beneath a library and discovers clues connected with the medieval knight who guarded the Grail.
The Venice sequence combines real locations and fictional underground spaces. The city’s canals, churches, and historic architecture provide a distinctive setting before the story moves to a castle in Austria and then to the desert canyon where the Grail is hidden.
The film’s Venice scenes also introduce the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword, a secret group protecting the Grail’s location. The city is not the final destination of the quest; it is the place where Indiana and Elsa uncover the information needed to continue following Henry Jones’s research.
