In Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, who plays Hermione Granger?

The story behind the answer

Emma Watson plays Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Watson was cast as Hermione when she was a child, making her film debut in the first Harry Potter movie. Alongside Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter and Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, she became one of the series’ three central young stars.

Hermione is a highly intelligent Hogwarts student known for her extensive reading, magical ability, and determination. Watson continued playing the character throughout all eight films, from 2001’s Philosopher’s Stone through 2011’s Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

A common mix-up is confusing Watson with Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley, or Evanna Lynch, who played Luna Lovegood. Watson later appeared in films including Beauty and the Beast and Little Women.
