In Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, what platform takes students to Hogwarts?

The story behind the answer

In Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Platform Nine and Three-Quarters takes students to Hogwarts.

The platform is accessed inside London’s King’s Cross railway station, between platforms 9 and 10. Harry first learns about it from the Weasley family, who show him how to pass through the barrier. The Hogwarts Express then carries students north to the school at the beginning of the academic year.

Platform Nine and Three-Quarters is one of the series’ most memorable examples of a magical location hidden within an ordinary Muggle setting. Its unusual fraction-like name immediately signals that wizarding infrastructure does not follow normal railway conventions.

The real King’s Cross station has a tourist sign referencing the platform, although the film production used other locations for some railway scenes. The platform is not the same as the fictional Hogwarts Express destination; it is the departure point for the train, which later arrives near the school.
