In Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry Potter is sorted into Gryffindor.
The Sorting Hat places first-year students into one of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’s four houses. Harry’s placement occurs during the welcoming feast after he arrives at Hogwarts for the first time.
Gryffindor is associated with courage, bravery, and nerve. Harry joins Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger there, and the three friends remain members of the house throughout the film series. The house is also home to characters such as Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, and Neville Longbottom.
Harry briefly worries about being placed in Slytherin, especially after the Sorting Hat considers that possibility. The final choice is Gryffindor, not Slytherin, and that distinction is central to the Hogwarts story.
