In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, who is appointed High Inquisitor of Hogwarts?

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Dolores Umbridge is appointed High Inquisitor of Hogwarts. The Ministry of Magic gives her the role as it increases its control over the school and disputes Harry’s account of Voldemort’s return.

Umbridge is already installed as Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher when she begins inspecting other teachers. Her decrees restrict student activities and undermine Albus Dumbledore’s authority.

The High Inquisitor title is separate from Umbridge’s later appointment as Hogwarts High Inquisitor and then headmistress in the film’s wider story. Imelda Staunton played Umbridge, while Cornelius Fudge was the Minister for Magic who supported the Ministry’s position.
