In Hackers (1995), which actor plays teenage hacker Dade Murphy, known online as Crash Override?

The story behind the answer

In Hackers (1995), Jonny Lee Miller plays teenage hacker Dade Murphy, known online as Crash Override.

The film follows Dade after he moves to New York and joins a group of young computer enthusiasts. His online identity, Crash Override, places him at the center of a plot involving a computer virus and corporate wrongdoing. Miller’s performance is one of the film’s defining elements, alongside Angelina Jolie as Kate Libby, or Acid Burn.

Hackers was directed by Iain Softley and released in 1995. Although its computer technology is highly stylized, the film became influential in popular culture and helped establish a recognizable cinematic image of hacker communities. A common mix-up is confusing Miller’s character with Emmanuel Goldstein, played by Matthew Lillard, another member of the hacker group.

Miller later became widely known for television roles, including Sherlock Holmes in Elementary.
