In Greek mythology, who became Pandora’s husband after Prometheus’s warning was ignored?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Epimetheus became Pandora’s husband after Prometheus’s warning was ignored.

Epimetheus was a Titan associated with hindsight and was the brother of Prometheus, whose name is linked with forethought. Zeus sent Pandora to Epimetheus as part of a punishment directed at humanity after Prometheus stole fire for humans.

Prometheus warned Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus, but Epimetheus accepted Pandora. In Hesiod’s account, Pandora later opened the container that released troubles into the world. The story therefore connects three figures: Prometheus, who foresaw danger; Epimetheus, who acted too late; and Pandora, whose arrival brought the decisive event.

A common mix-up is identifying Prometheus as Pandora’s husband. Prometheus is instead her brother-in-law in the mythological family relationship: he is Epimetheus’s brother. Different ancient and later retellings add details, but Epimetheus is the standard husband named in the classical tradition.
