In Greek mythology, which mortal received Pandora as a wife after Zeus’s plan was carried out?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Epimetheus received Pandora as a wife after Zeus’s plan was carried out. Epimetheus was a Titan and the brother of Prometheus, whose theft of fire had provoked Zeus’s punishment of humanity.

The name Epimetheus is commonly interpreted as “afterthought” or “he who thinks afterward,” contrasting with Prometheus, whose name is associated with forethought. This contrast shapes their mythological roles: Prometheus is cautious about Zeus’s gifts, while Epimetheus accepts Pandora despite his brother’s warning.

Pandora’s arrival is not presented as an ordinary marriage story. Hesiod frames it as part of Zeus’s retaliation, with Pandora bringing the sealed vessel whose opening releases human troubles. Epimetheus’s acceptance therefore places the divine plan inside the household of the Titan family.

Deucalion is their descendant through Epimetheus and Pandora’s daughter Pyrrha, not Pandora’s husband. Prometheus is her brother-in-law, and Heracles belongs to a later generation of Greek heroes.
