In Greek mythology, which Olympian god was born on the island of Delos?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Apollo was born on the island of Delos.

Apollo was the son of Zeus and Leto and the twin brother of Artemis. Hera, angered by Zeus’s relationship with Leto, was said to have prevented Leto from giving birth on ordinary land. Delos, then described as a floating island, offered refuge, and Apollo was born there after Artemis.

Apollo became one of the most widely revered Greek gods. He was associated with archery, music, poetry, prophecy, healing, and later the sun. His major oracle at Delphi was consulted by rulers and individuals across the Greek world. The Pythian Games at Delphi were held in his honor.

Apollo’s Roman identity remained Apollo, an unusual case because the Romans adopted his Greek name. Delos and Delphi should not be confused: Delos is linked with his birth, while Delphi became the center of his famous oracle.
