In Greek mythology, which god ruled Mount Olympus as the supreme Olympian deity?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Zeus ruled Mount Olympus as the supreme Olympian deity.

Zeus was the god of the sky, thunder, lightning, law, order, and justice. Greek myths describe him as the youngest child of the Titans Cronus and Rhea, although some traditions give different details about his birth and upbringing. Cronus swallowed his children because he feared a prophecy that one would overthrow him.

Rhea protected Zeus by hiding him in Crete and deceiving Cronus with a stone wrapped in cloth. After growing up, Zeus helped free his siblings and led the younger gods in the Titanomachy, the war against the Titans. Victory established the Olympian gods as the ruling generation.

Zeus is often confused with Jupiter, but Jupiter is his Roman equivalent rather than a separate Greek Olympian. The ancient Greeks worshipped Zeus at major sanctuaries including Olympia, where the Olympic Games honored him.
