In Greek mythology, which god became Ariadne’s husband after she was left on Naxos?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Dionysus became Ariadne’s husband after she was left on Naxos.

Ariadne had helped Theseus defeat the Minotaur and escape the Labyrinth. After the journey from Crete, however, Theseus abandoned her on Naxos in the best-known version of the story. Dionysus then encountered Ariadne, married her, and made her part of his divine household.

The marriage connects the Labyrinth story with the mythology of Dionysus, the god associated with wine, religious ecstasy, theatre, and vegetation. In some traditions, Dionysus had already claimed Ariadne or ordered Theseus to leave her, while other versions portray Theseus’s departure differently.

Ariadne’s crown is also linked with Dionysus: later myth says he placed it in the sky as Corona Borealis. Apollo, Hermes, and Hephaestus are major gods, but none is the standard husband of Ariadne in this episode.
