In Greek mythology, which deity created Pandora from earth?
Answer
Hephaestus
Answer
Hephaestus
In Greek mythology, Hephaestus created Pandora from earth.
Hesiod’s Works and Days says Zeus ordered Hephaestus, the divine smith, to shape a woman from earth. Other gods then contributed abilities, ornaments, or characteristics, producing the figure called Pandora, “all-gifted.”
This creation scene makes Pandora part of Zeus’s punishment of humanity after Prometheus stole fire. Hephaestus’s role is specifically that of maker or craftsman, not the deity who devises the entire scheme. Zeus directs the plan, while the other gods furnish the creation.
Later artistic versions often show Pandora emerging from the earth or being presented among the gods. These images can make the roles seem interchangeable, but the ancient literary account assigns the physical creation to Hephaestus.
