In Greek mythology, what weapon did Zeus wield as the thunder god?

The story behind the answer

In Greek mythology, Zeus wielded the thunderbolt as the thunder god.

The thunderbolt was Zeus’s most recognizable weapon and a symbol of his authority over the sky. In many myths, he used it to enforce divine order, punish oath-breakers, and defeat powerful enemies. Greek artists commonly showed Zeus standing or seated while holding a bundle of lightning bolts.

According to myth, the Cyclopes forged Zeus’s thunderbolt after he freed them from imprisonment. They also made Poseidon’s trident and Hades’ helmet of invisibility. These weapons helped the three brothers defeat the Titans during the Titanomachy.

The thunderbolt is sometimes confused with the aegis, another object associated with Zeus. The aegis was a protective divine item, often described as a shield or animal skin, whereas the thunderbolt was his offensive weapon and emblem of celestial power.
