In George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel A Game of Thrones, the capital city of the Seven Kingdoms is King’s Landing.
King’s Landing stands on the east coast of Westeros, beside Blackwater Bay. Aegon the Conqueror founded the settlement at the site where he landed during his conquest, and it later became the political center of the Targaryen, Baratheon, and other royal regimes.
The city contains the Red Keep, the royal castle, and the Iron Throne. It is also the location of the Great Sept of Baelor and the city’s crowded neighborhoods. Readers sometimes answer “Winterfell,” but Winterfell is the ancestral seat of House Stark in the north, not the kingdom’s capital.
