In Genesis, which three sons of Noah are named as the ancestors of people after the Flood?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, Noah’s three named sons are Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Genesis introduces these three sons before the Flood and later presents them as the family members who leave the Ark with Noah. Genesis 9 then recounts an incident involving Noah and his sons after the Flood.

The following “Table of Nations” in Genesis 10 traces numerous peoples and territories through the descendants of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. This genealogy is a major reason the three names are treated as foundational figures in the biblical narrative.

They are not the same trio as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who belong to later generations. Nor should they be confused with Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, who appear much later in the biblical story.
